HOW TO FIX YOUR SYSTEM
Missing Codecs
Windows includes several common codecs which are installed by default during
Windows Setup when a sound card is installed in the computer. ReVoice
Studio requires that you have the Microsoft ADPCM CODEC for audio.
To verify that codecs included with Windows 95 (and 98) are installed,
follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click the Windows Setup
tab, click Multimedia, and then click Details.
- Verify that the Audio Compression check box is selected. If it is
not selected, click to select the check box, and then click OK.
For Audio Playback Problems in ReVoice Studio:
You can verify that the ADPCM codec is installed by following these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
- Double-click Multimedia, click the Devices tab (Advanced
tab in Windows 95)
- If you have had audio playback problems, double-click Audio Compression
Codec to expand the branch.
- You should see Microsoft ADPCM CODEC in the list. If you do see
this codec listed but have not heard the audio, follow the next two steps.
This next instructions verifies that this Codec is enabled (turned on) for
use.
- Click the Microsoft ADPCM CODEC, and then click Properties.
- Click Use this audio codec, and then click OK.
- Now close all the system windows and retry running ReVoice Studio.
(For the moment - we are going to assume the CODEC is not damaged.)
If the Microsoft ADPCM CODEC is not listed, install it using the Add New
Hardware tool in Control Panel. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
- Double-click Add New Hardware, click Next, click No,
and then click Next.
- Click Sound, video, and game controllers, and then click Next.
- In the Manufacturers box, find Microsoft Audio Codecs.
- In the Models box, click the ADPCM CODEC, click Next and then
click Finish.
