Troubleshooting Recording Problems
in ReVoice Studio
This page is to help users that have problems with playing the video in ReVoice Studio
There seem to be several possible causes, mainly related to computers' sound
systems. Some or all of the following solutions have helped people to overcome
the problem.
A. Check your sound setup
1. Have you been through the ReVoice Studio Mic Check Wizard?
- This allows you to set levels for your microphone. You can start this again
by clicking on 'Mike' in the green screen on the top right of the ReVoice
Studio screen, then clicking on the microphone icon that pops down.
- Make sure that your microphone is recording sound.
2. You may also need to check that your recording device has been selected
in the system software:
- Make sure ReVoice Studio is closed
- Right click the Speaker icon in the Windows toolbar on the bottom right
of his screen.
- Select "Adjust Audio Properties". In the Audio Properties window,
uder the section Sound Recording, use the drop-down selector to see if the
wrong device (such as a modem) is selected.
- If there is a sound card available to choose, select that, press Apply,
close that window and try ReVoice Studio again.
B. Install the latest drivers for your sound card
If your sound card drivers are not functioning correctly, either because they
are wrongly installed or corrupted, you will have problems recording in ReVoice
Studio.
Check with your computer supplier, or sound card manufacturer, that you have
the LATEST drivers for your soundcard for your system.
If you do not have the latest drivers, you will need to install them (or re-install
the existing drivers if they are the latest drivers).
C. Adjust your DirectX properties
Problems when recording in ReVoice Studio are frequently linked with the DirectX
(the Windows system that handles graphics and sound) setup:
1. Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed.
2. Try turning off DirectX acceleration:
- Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box type dxdiag.
- Click on the Sound tab and move the Hardware Sound Acceleration
slider to 'No Acceleration'.
You can also use the DirectX Diagnostics program to test your audio and video
setup. Make sure it is working correctly.
D. Specific Solutions Reported:
The following is a specific trouble shooting solution when using a C-Media
CMI8738 sound card. However, it could apply to other systems.
- When the 4 speaker mode is turned on, the record option in ReVoice Studio
may not work (ie: you press record and nothing happens).
- Turn 4 speaker mode OFF (ie: turn off the REAR channels), the record mode
should work correctly.
The Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher from Morgan Multimedia stops ReVoice Studio from
recording properly. The video plays but no recording is saved.
Please let us know if any of these solutions helps, or if you have further problems
after trying the above.
