Important Overview

Users of previous versions should read these notes to get a simplified list of the improvements and added features.

Details of these improvements and new features are incorporated into this User Guide where relevant. Some items below have links to the detailed information.

Note Edit Mode

The new Note Edit Mode button allows you to toggle between two methods of modifying note blocks. When the Note Edit Mode button is enabled, pitch controls are available in the top half of a note block, and time modification controls are available in the bottom half. When the Note Edit Mode button is disabled, pitch modification controls are available from anywhere on the block, and time modification controls are disabled. Shaper Tool

The silver bullet of the RePitch 1.3 release is a new tool which has the ability to place 'Shape Points' on a pitch or level trace so they can be manipulated in ways that are difficult to achieve with the Draw tool and also doesn't need the note block to the split first. This is a completely unique feature not found in any other pitch editing tools. The user benefit is ability to very quickly and precisely 'shape' a pitch curve while retaining the character of the performance, so the result is more natural.

This new tool is discussed in the Pitch Editing Tools section of the manual.

Improvements to Note Block Controls

We have increased the number of parameters that can be edited from a note block by introducing Control Points which sit around the note block and enable values to be changed quickly, speeding up user workflow. Note Blocks now also allow for a variety of time based controls via click-and-drag.

Improvements to Modulation and Drift Controls

Following user feedback, we've updated how RePitch edits pitch modulate and drift to be more in line with best practise.

Speed Enhancements

If edits are being applied in RePitch to a long signal, we now only process the segment of audio which has been changed, this can significantly speed up processing time.

Bypass Shortcut Key 'B'

Bypass is now on a hotkey for easier A / B comparison of before and after processing.

Option + Double Click to find Playback Loop

Wherever you are in RePitch, holding down option and double clicking RePitch now starts playback from your playback loop, useful if you’ve got lost.

Level Editing Improvements

Notes selected in the pitch view are selected in the level view.

Warp Time is available in the level display.

Shape Shifter works on the level display.

When moving notes the interpolation of transition and ungrouped audio now sounds better.

If you cut a note on the pitch display it is also cut on the level display.

Custom Keyboard Shortcuts

Can be accessed from the General Settings Dialog. Discussed in the User Interface and Operation section.

Editing

● Changes to macros, snap control and scale management

○ In Scale menu, you can add new scales and use a selected scale in Macros which will not be overwritten by the measured scale.

○ The Detected ("Measured") scale will be shown in the Scale menu and kept in the Scale Window's Active Scale list.

○ The Snap switch, when ON, now:

  • Makes "Snapping" operations use the displayed Scale's notes
  • Turns ON the display of only the allowed Scale notes in the Main Window

○ Factory Macros are simplified and now ask:

  • First -  for Pitch Range (to speed up and improve editing) and then
  • Secondly - Do you want to manually edit or automatically tune to a user-Selected scale or the Measured (Detected) scale

●  NEW Multi-Region EditingMode - Editing functions are now supported across multiple regions (when they exist).  

Information
For clarity, we use the name "Region" for the sections of audio that have been captured or transferred from your DAW (where they might be called "clips", "segments", "sections", "events" or other names). 
Most DAWs support more than one of these Regions in a track.
  • The main reason for the Single Region Mode is to be able to select only one Region when they overlap.
  • The new mode switch in the top tool bar switches between Multiple and Single region modes
  • If you only have one Region in the track, there is no difference in these two editing modes.
  • In Multiple and Single Region Editing modes you can:
  • Select notes across regions and edit all at the same time
  • Use the Correct Pitch and Draw tools across regions
  • Apply Macros to notes in all the Region(s)
  • Use the right/left Arrow keys to step through notes across regions
  • Select Region for VocAlign Ultra to access it as Guide audio (mainly for Studio One)
  • Delete a selected Region when you have Real-time Captured regions.

  • In Single Region Editing mode you can isolate the selected Region and not see any other Regions.
    This helps editing notes that might be obscured by other Region's notes.


User Interface

Undo and Redo the capture of audio in Real-time mode

  • You will get a warning notice when you delete audio
  • Undo and Redo operations are now faster for the draw tool and correct pitch
  • Undo of Draw Tool operations is now much faster

Note name area in left border - new functions

  • Note name area can be clicked to hear the note frequency
  • Toggle a note’s allowable state ON or OFF by right clicking over the note’s label area and selecting “Toggle Note”
  • Snap button turns ON/OFF off the Allowed Notes display and snapping action.

Other Improvements

  • Show start & ends of multiple Regions in main and overview windows and Selected Region (grey) range bar at top of screen under Playback Loop “track”.
  • Clearer “Playhead” and smoother movement.
  • Faster Screen updates:  Screen redraws should be significantly faster.


Playback

New local playback engine.

  • Plays across regions
  • Plays local loops
  • Allows audio scrubbing (put mouse cursor on Playback head and drag left and right)

Playback Loop operation improved

  • You can Jump to the start of a Playback Loop from anywhere in the timeline  (even if loop range is not visible in RePitch)
    • To do this: Hold down OPTION / ALT key and Double-click in the RePitch window in empty area.
  • Playback loops back to start from the end of a Playback Loop for local playback
  • If you have a Playback Loop, you can use its range to select the audio that crosses and are within its boundaries.
    • This is now in the main Right Click menu. Set Selected from Playback Loop.
    • This can used for many things including for a key change, to apply tuning or other operation to the range using the different scale.
  • Playback Loops new now work in AAX and Real-Time VST and AU RePitch versions.

Navigation

● Zoom to selected range (Z key) and back out using Z key now works after doing other operations in between Z key presses.

Storage

  • Better file management to prevent excessive disk use (unnecessary files are deleted when DAW / RePitch is closed)

Processing

  • NEW Control of pitch trend (aka “Drift") in the Note Center tool
  • NEW Control box for multiple notes that assist note groups’ time modifications and Tilt control
  • Unvoiced Notes (detected sibilance) are now positioned correctly at start and end of note
  • RePitch now also processes in stereo as well as mono
  • RePitch now updates itself when the GUI is not displayed
  • Pentatonic Scales no longer appear as results of automatic scale detection (but remain available in the manually selectable scales).
  • Pro Tools now has SynchroLink connection between RePitch and VocAlign Ultra
  • Support for 768kHz Audio

Display

  • NEW Click in scale note name areas in left RePitch border to enable or disable notes in the scale.
    If a note name is visible, it becomes an allowable note to Snap to (if Snap button is on)

  • In Logic Pro, RePitch displays correct audio segment when selecting a different track

  • Tooltips now display and close properly

  • Unvoiced sounds at start of sung words are displayed with the following pitched note
  • Resizing improved in Logic Pro running in Apple Silicon mode

Playback

  • Playback loop area operations when dragging range improved

  • Playback in RePitch now stops at the end of the signal rather than jumping back to the start

  • After using the Draw Tool to change pitch, note blocks move to new Note Centers

Navigation, Tools and Commands

  • NEW In AU DAWs: key commands that include the CMD key are passed to the DAW if they are not used by RePitch
  • When using the Draw tool, transitions are handled better

  • Choosing a new scale now updates the Scale Name Window correctly without having to save and reopen the Scale window

  • Windows 10  trackpad gestures have been improved

  • Keyboard shortcuts (including those with CMD keys) now work in all major DAWs 

VocAlign Ultra Connection to RePitch

  • Fixed SynchroLink connection so that VocAlign Ultra does not delete processes in RePitch
  • When using SynchroLink, VocAlign Ultra now processes up to three times faster.
